Is it the amount of users? The people on it? The amount of celebs on it?
Should be none of the above. What makes a good streaming site is the one with the better support and tools to use.
I was searching today for a way to stream my desktop for fun and while playing games, While searching there were many different ideas showing you how to stream your desktop on ustream.tv. They ranged from WebCamMax to using Camtasia (Which I own) but Camtasia stoped doing live streaming in 6.02 because there wasn’t much demand for it.
Now while searching around i found something called Procaster but scoffed it off as being another one of this spam things.
Trying and trying to get things going I tried out WebCamMax and Ustream. Needless to say it hogged a lot of memory, about 2 gigs out of the 3 in this laptop. I was streaming with it and pushing to Ustream, all while having a conversation on msn, filezilla open and uploading, firefox open with 7 tabs, pspad open, mirc, trillian astra, outlook 2010 (there will be a post on that later) and a few other things. Now this computer is a laptop from Toshiba and is pretty good for when i bought it almost two years ago. I obviously removed vista and it now runs Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. so running all that except for WebCamMax was fine, but pushing out with it slowed it to a crawl.
Now I decided to try this ProCaster and see what it was about. Downloaded and installed it, the interface looked like and AIR app. but it is nice and smooth and not much resource hungry just on the app. I decided to try it out and did a 3D cast of my desktop and me, looked good so I went farther. I decided to stream me playing COD4. I must say I was impressed, you can minimize the ingame menu so you can see, doesn’t bog down the connection/fps and looks great in HD on the web.
I had my friend Peter test it on the site, he said there was no choppiness lag or interference.
So all in all I am leaning toward Procaster and Livestream being in whole, better then Ustream for multiple things from HD broadcasting to being able to broadcast PIP, desktop and games in one tool.

ScreenCamera should be mentioned. ScreenCamera is a powerful tool that transforms the computer desktop into a webcam that can be used to make live screencasts through Skype, LiveStream, UStream, Messengers, or any other video conferencing/chat app or website. It is a great tool for the educator and for anyone wanting to provide long distance tutorials on any given subject.
Having said that here is a link for the application:

Good addition, though I never used it. Thanks for adding that Alex.
Hey, just wanna let you know that your RSS feed is having WC3 errors for me. Please find a solution!
Unless you’re paying for Premium ($350 a month + extra bandwidth charges if you have a lot of viewer hours), Livestream limits you to a bitrate of 500kbps maximum. Also it seems to run at only 25fps max which is just a tad suboptimal. I’ve found that quality-wise you will get more bang for your figurative buck (assuming free) out of streaming with Ustream. Ustream also has a new program that might cover some of your needs called the Ustream Producer. It’s like the Procaster, but looks to be full of better features.
Oh hey, this is an old article, go me.
Ha, It’s fine. I still get comments on older articles once in a while.
Great, thanks for sharing this article. Much obliged.
